A few days ago, an 18-wheeler ahead of me blew its head gasket. Or at least something else happened that caused it to start billowing out thick white smoke. But anyway, he was in the second lane to the right. He put his flashers on, moved as far right in his lane as he could, slowed down a bit, and.... people kept passing him on the right, preventing him from pulling over and forcing him to continue driving on a bad engine. I really hope that his company will cover at least part of the repair bill, although in a perfect world that responsibility would go toward all the selfish assholes who made him keep going.
To be fair, though, I’m sure a lot of people just didn’t even realize that something was wrong. There should be a section in driver’s ed about identifying problems with other vehicles and knowing whether to keep your distance, warn the driver, or whatever, and extra emphasis on the whole helping-each-other-out aspect.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I doubt these people even think as far as to consider what they’re actions are effecting. They just do it because they don’t care.
“Why should I slow down and let them in? I was here first.”

I’d assume everyone would identify a vehicle billowing out thick white smoke as having some kind of problem. Or it houses a 90s disco, that’s plausible too.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Ah yes, Hanlon’s Razor. To which there is a corollary, “...but don’t rule out malice.”

People can't even identify problems on their own damn car. There's a snowballs chance in hell of them being able to identify issues on another car on the road.

Could be the Ceech and Chong mobile.

There is another explanation.

When I’ve encountered something like that, I would go into the lane the trucker was trying to get into and ‘block’ the lane, then flash my lights to let the trucker know I was letting him in.
In the past, I towed a trailer with a bog slow full size car from the early 1980s and know how it feels when selfish assholes won’t let you in.
Of course another dynamic to the situation is that the trucker should have been in the right lane and not continuously staying in the the center lane.

I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen get stranded in a lane because no one would let them over into the right lane so they can make it onto the shoulder. Their selfishness of not wanting to lose a few seconds causes a major delay for hundreds if not thousands of people.
